Issue Description
1. When connecting an active subwoofer to the Signature BS-3 bookshelf speakers via the SUB OUT port, you may notice the following:
- Adjusting the volume on the Signature BS-3 speakers does not change the subwoofer volume.
- The subwoofer volume remains unchanged regardless of the volume level set on the bookshelf speakers.
- However, adjusting the volume on a connected audio source device, such as a DAC, changes the subwoofer volume accordingly.
2.Why Does This Happen?
This is normal behavior based on the current design of the Signature BS-3 and does not indicate a product malfunction.
The volume control on the Signature BS-3 only adjusts the volume of the bookshelf speakers themselves. The SUB OUT port operates independently, so its output level does not follow the speakers' volume adjustments.
However, the SUB OUT output level can change when the volume is adjusted directly from a connected audio source device, such as a DAC.
Please note:
- This behavior is part of the product's current design and is not related to the firmware version.
- Updating the firmware will not enable synchronized volume control between the bookshelf speakers and the SUB OUT output.
- Switching between Optical, Bluetooth, USB, or Analog inputs will not change how the SUB OUT volume operates.
- The SUB OUT port can still output low-frequency audio signals normally, and a compatible active subwoofer can be used without issues.
Recommended Solution
If you are using the Signature BS-3 with an active subwoofer, we recommend the following setup:
Step 1: Balance the Subwoofer Volume
Adjust the volume or gain control on your subwoofer until the bass level is balanced with the sound from the Signature BS-3 bookshelf speakers.
Step 2: Keep the Volume Settings Fixed
Once you have achieved a suitable balance, keep the volume settings on both the Signature BS-3 and the subwoofer unchanged.
Step 3: Adjust the Overall Volume Through Your Audio Source
Use the volume control on your connected audio source device, such as a DAC with adjustable output volume, to control the overall listening volume.
For example, when using a Fosi Audio DAC-04, adjusting the DAC's volume knob allows the bookshelf speakers and subwoofer to increase or decrease in volume together.
Step 4: Fine-Tune the Bass If Needed
Depending on the music or movie content, you can make minor adjustments to the subwoofer's volume or gain control to achieve your preferred bass performance.
Additional Information
Q: Can a firmware update enable synchronized subwoofer volume control?
A: No. The current Signature BS-3 design does not support this function through firmware updates.
Q: Will switching to another input mode solve the issue?
A: No. The SUB OUT volume control behavior remains the same across Optical, Bluetooth, USB, and Analog input modes.
Q: Does this mean my subwoofer or Signature BS-3 is defective?
A: No. If the subwoofer outputs audio normally, the fact that its volume does not follow the Signature BS-3's volume adjustments is an expected design characteristic, not a hardware fault.
Q: How can I adjust the bookshelf speakers and subwoofer volume together?
A: We recommend using a connected audio source device with adjustable output volume, such as a compatible DAC, to control the overall system volume.
