Main Improvement Points:
① Change the Bass adjustment range to -6-6, 13 levels
② Change the surround adjustment range to -3-3, 7 levels
③ Improve vocal clarity
④ Improve the surround sound effect
Note: This is not a necessary operation. If the sound quality and adjustment range of the factory software have already met your expectations, it is recommended that you do not upgrade.
If you received the goods from the beginning of April, the factory software is V139
Specific Method:
1. Copy the "update.zip" file to the USB flash drive.
Note:
① Use an empty USB flash drive, USB format: FAT32 / ex-FAT, 128GB or less capacity;
② The file doesn't need to unzip;
③ It is recommended to use a newer USB flash drive, as an old one may cause the device to crash/stuck during the upgrade process;
2. After the Soundbar is turned on, insert the USB flash drive into the USB port, WAITING will be displayed, and then it will automatically upgrade and the progress will be displayed from 0 to 100. Automatically standby after the upgrade is completed.
3. Press and hold the button on the right side of "Dolby ATMOS" for 5 seconds. If the display shows "V139", it means the upgrade is successful.

Hello!
The pairing between the soundbar and the subwoofer doesnot work for me, so it will probably be replaced. Should
I ask for the same one as a replacement, or would I be
better off with a D50? Atmos is not important. How enjoyable
is surround sound now? Can the rear speakers be heard?
How much weaker is the D50's subwoofer?
Attila,
Why not give it a try? With Amazon's 30 days Free Returns, the Poseidon D50 does have good Dolby+ Surround Sound (without Atmos). Just be aware that the Subwoofer needs to sit on something solid (I used a board to lift it off the carpet) as it bounces the Bass off a solid floor as versus the usual recommendation to bounce the Bass off a wall. The D50's Subwoofer is adequate for a budget system, but nothing to compare with the S80's superb Subwoofer.
I was happy with the D50's Dolby+ rear Surround speakers. The Subwoofer won't win any awards, but does add that deep rumble. Overall, a commendable budget Dolby+ upgrade to a TV's built-in speakers. I kind of liked it 😉.
Suggest you give the D50 a go, Attila. – R
Richard!
The decision is difficult. Now I have a JBL SB260 which is abasic 2.1 system with a 5.25 woofer. I chose the S80 because
I wanted a step up in quality. If I were to decide on the D50,
I would only be ahead with the two rear speakers, and I'm not
sure that it would offer as much bass as the JBL. I think I'll
stick with the S80 replacement and hope Ultimea somehow solves
the rear speakers problem.
Muchas gracias
NETFLIX in the UK 🇬🇧 have just released "Top Gun MAVERICK" in Dolby Atmos where you can actually hear Surround Sound from the Nova S80's rear speakers. Hopefully, this is a global release, so everyone in every NETFLIX country can access it. The rear speakers Surround Sound is excellent right from the opening credits.
The good new is that this latest Dolby ATMOS streaming release demonstrates that the Nova S80 rear speakers can perform, if given an appropriate Atmos/Surround Sound streaming soundtrack. That's good news, but we still need more volume options, and I've yet to experience any noticeable "height" sounds from the upfiring Atmos speakers.
Hello Richard!
Then, according to them, the sorround sound strongly depends on the source. Have You tried it with DolbyDigital 5.1?
Hi Attila,
Yes, I find the S80 works reasonably well with Dolby+ (5.1 Surround) streaming, although it is typically not loud enough on the two rear Surround speakers.
HOWEVER, today's NETFLIX release of "Top Gun MAVERICK" in Dolby ATMOS is a game-changer. I am getting good Surround Sound levels on the two rear Surround speakers when playing this ATMOS movie. Unlike previously, when I could hear almost nothing from the rear speakers, I'm hearing continuous complimentary sounds coming from the back (just like I heard on my old SONY 5.1 system). So, obviously, this movie is working really well at making the Nova S80 deliver good Dolby+ 5.1 Surround.
My difficulty with the S80 not delivering any noticeable Atmos "height" sounds remains problematic.
Hopefully, you and others can try watching the Dolby Atmos movie that NETFLIX released today. I am impressed with the S80 playing "Top Gun MAVERICK" as a demonstration of Surround Sound but I'm still underwhelmed by its upfiring Atmos capabilities.
What I'd really like is for Ultimea to point us to an Atmos movie that demonstrates the "overhead sounds" that the Nova S80 is supposed to be giving us. So far I'm not convinced that I'm hearing that "height" dimension of something flying upwards into my ceiling that the S80's two upfiring Atmos speakers are supposed to deliver 🤷♂️.
Hallo Richard,
Hello Michael,
As I see it, Ultimea's best option would be to offer us early adopters an EXTENDED RETURNS PERIOD to give themselves time to prepare new software that delivers the promised performance.
I'd like to help, but my Returns Window is closing unless they do something...
🤷♂️
Richard
Hello!
In the latest test posted on YouTube, they say thatthe S80 subwoofer does not produce as much punch as the
smaller subwoofer of the Nova S50. Is this really so?
No! It's not true.
One thing that's really good on the Nova S80 is its phenomenal BIG Subwoofer👍. It has a massive side speaker, whereas the D50 has an unusual downwards firing speaker in its Subwoofer. Generally, the expert advice on subwoofers is to "bounce" the sound off a wall. The D50 Subwoofer bounces its sound off the floor, meaning you need a hard floor, else the carpet will absorb the Bass sounds. The Poseidon D50 Subwoofer works, but I really I'm really in love the Bass on the Nova S80, especially after they gave us more settings in software update V136. My whole room vibrates with the S80's deep Bass 🤪 🔊
Sorry, I was posting about the Subwoofer on the Poseidon D50. You were asking about the Subwoofer on the Nova S50. I've no experience of the Nova S50. I just know that the S80 Subwoofer is really good.
Question. Does anyone actually have their sound bar display the words Dolby Atmos ? Even testing Atmos videos I get good sound but display always says Dolby surround.
Yes, Mark, the S80 will sometimes display DOLBY ATMOS, but you're more likely to see SURROUND, as more of a Movie will be recorded in DOLBY+ 5.1 with only a very small amount of ATMOS by comparison. This is what makes testing the S80's
ATMOS capabilities so difficult. typically, you'll see the LEDs displaying the kind of audio being received only when you first switch channels or at the very start a Movie. It is very brief and intermittent. I have requested a setting such that we can continuously monitor what type of audio signal we're receiving, as well as the capability to dim the too bright LED display or switch it OFF completely.
BTW, I've just been told that if you have the NETFLIX subscription with Dolby Atmos, then try watching "All Quiet on the Western Front" and switching between the German and English soundtracks. The German is in ATMOS and the English in DOLBY+ and, apparently, this will trigger the LEDs and we should hear the difference.
Thank you for my answer. I was able get it to finally display Atmos using test thru fire stick settings. Now my question I have Netflix US premium. But nothing on move info ever shows Atmos. On screen or sound bar. Everything says hdr 4k 5.1 on Netflix screens. Never Atmos. Is this normal ?
Thru trial and error I fixed my problem. Apparently it matters which version of Netflix I am using. Using newer version on fire stick no Atmos. Using older version on tv bam Atmos. Go figure. P.S. Still need surround speakers louder.
Ok, Mark, if you're paying for the most expensive NETFLIX subscription, then you'll be receiving Dolby Atmos and 4K pictures. I'm in the UK 🇬🇧, so not sure about USA NETFLIX plans.
If you have the correct subscription, then check out "All Quiet on the Western Front" in German with English subtitles. Fast forwards to 6 minutes. You'll see the Germans inside a Dugout "bunker" and, keep watching, they'll be hit by a rolling-barage of Allied shellfire that will cause the roof to collapse. (This Dolby Atmos episode is described in this link https://professional.dolby.com/en-gb/home-entertainment/case-studies/dolby-atmos-all-quiet-on-the-western-front/.) Try watching in the original German (with English subtitles) and in the English version. I believe I detect more Dolby+ and, possibly, Atmos in the German than the English language versions.
I'm also experimenting with raising my Nova S80 to sit ABOVE my TV. The thinking is that I have a 55" curved TV that requires you sit quite close to the TV for the optimum curved screen viewing angle. That may be too close for the upfiring Atmos speakers to bounce off my ceiling. Having raised my S80 soundbar by 2' (60cm) the upfiring speakers have less distance for the sound to travel and, more important, it changes the bounce-back angle. The sound bounces back off my ceiling much closer to my TV; so I can sit closer to the TV.
It's difficult to ascertain whether I'm getting more Atmos effect – we still need more power on those upfiring speakers – because the sound now coming from above, rather than below, the screen might be what I'm hearing – but it does feel like I'm possibly getting a little bit of Atmos "height".
Expert reviews of upfiring speakers seem to agree that the more power the better (even if it introduces distortion). I tried tilting my head on its side, to hear left ear right ear giving up and down, and although I'm not certain, it sounds hopeful.
Anyhow, try watching "All Quiet on the Western Front" in the original German version in Atmos, and you'll definitely get more rear (Surround) speaker sound than in the English version. Also, as I said earlier, try NETFLIX "Top Gun MAVERICK", which was only released in Dolby Atmos yesterday, as that gives great Dolby+ 5.1 and your ears may hear Atmos too. (Although we really need more power to those Atmos upfiring speakers to be sure.)
I'm really hoping that Ultimea will fix this. As mentioned previously, I'm a technical consultant in technology – began my career in producing the Cinema trailers for "Star Wars" and know a lot about the technology since. I suspect that Ultimea does not engineer its own software, but hires outside industry experts (which is typical in the industry) and explains why they're not responding to these discussions quickly. Hopefully, however, they'll engage with us, as I'm sure we'd all like to see the Nova S80 become a new industry flagship. It'd be such a shame if we all demand refunds.
Richard
Mark, on the Amazon Firestick, I have the very latest (most expensive) "Fire TV Stick 4K MAX". I immediately updated the software, and it works superbly well with Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video, NETFLIX, and Disney+. As such, I cannot imagine why you've experienced issues with Atmos on the latest version of NETFLIX 🤷♂️. Have you tried going into the Firestick menus and doing a "RESTART", as that cured the very few problems that I experienced? The Amazon FIRE TV 4K MAX is something that Ultimea should be pushing as complimentary to their Soundbars with dual HDMI ports. It really solved my problem.
Dear all customers,
First of all, I apologize for not responding promptly, but I have been carefully reading all of your comments and collecting important suggestions and feedback.
Overall, we believe that most of you are quite satisfied with the sound quality of the Novas80. However, due to the effects of surround sound and the sky unit, some of you have developed doubts and misunderstandings about our product and brand.
I want to promise and assure you that we are responsible for every customer:
1. We have a dedicated QC team that conducts 100% quality inspections before the products are shipped to ensure there are no issues.
2. We have a highly professional product development team that has strict requirements for product research and development. Additionally, we spare no expense in purchasing products from various brands in the market for comparison and analysis, learning from their strengths and eliminating their weaknesses. We believe that our products have significant advantages in terms of performance and price compared to most products in the market.
After the production of samples, we conduct internal beta testing, inviting customers with certain expertise and technical knowledge to experience the samples and provide professional advice. Before the official production of the product, we will optimize it further based on their feedback.
If you have any doubts about the product, please contact our support and I can provide CE certification and other relevant certificates.
3. We provide 24/7 after-sales service and a 2-year warranty. Our service team is always ready to actively resolve any issues customers may encounter with our products.
Our ULTIMEA brand has always prioritized customer experience and is committed to providing good products and services to each customer. We sincerely hope to receive your trust and support.
Thank you!
Furthermore, when we receive customer feedback, our product development team and factory technicians actively work on developing various software. Our team has conducted multiple tests to ensure there are no issues before deciding to release the V139 software to meet your expectations as much as possible.
Finally, regarding the issue of weak sound from the rear speaker, we have enhanced the sound and provided a suitable adjustment range of -3 to 3, ensuring there is no surround noise. Today, we conducted another round of testing internally, and the surround sound is very prominent, especially when set to 3.
We can provide test videos to everyone.
If we continue to increase the surround sound further may cause distortion and overshadow the main soundbar sound.
We recommend:
①Confirming whether you have successfully upgraded to V139.
②Placing the rear speakers on both sides of the sofa, close to ear level, for the best effect.
③Adjust the surround sound to level 2 or 3
④Testing with multiple format audio files (EQ: music mode) as the effect may vary with different audio. For testing the upward sky unit effect, please use Dolby Atmos audio to test via HDMI(eARC) connection and adjust the level to AT1
If the problem persists, please contact us to explain your needs and I will continue to ask the R&D team to customize the software specifically for you.
Solucionenlo, gracias
Yes Ultimea most are satisfied we are saying areas that need improvement. Definitely agree with display. Would be nice verify what format is being used. Also the surround speakers are low unless it’s in Atmos format. Nex issue maybe Richard can answer. I can use Max thru fire stick and get Atmos. But if I use Netflix no Atmos. Only way I get Atmos Netflix is running app on tv itself. Samsung 65Q60C.
Hi Mark,
Regarding your Amazon "FIRE TV STICK" not giving you Atmos. Do you mean that you're not hearing audible Atmos sounds from the S80's upfiring speakers, or are you saying that the S80 LED display isn't showing the scrolling Atmos?
And, when you say your Samsung TV's own smart Apps are giving you Atmos, are you talking about Atmos played through the S80 soundbar or through the TV's own speakers?
Next question: is your FIRE STICK plugged into the S80's HDIN Port or into your Samsung 65Q60C TV using pass-through to talk to the S80? I've no idea if the Samsung 65Q60C supports pass-through, nor what TV settings you'd need. If your FIRE STICK was plugged into the TV, suggest you plug it directly into the S80 HDIN Port and connect the TV with HDMI ARC/eARC.
Plugged into HDIN, my S80 LEDs display the scrolling "Atmos" message on appropriate movies; but I'm still unconvinced that the S80's upfiring Atmos speakers are actually doing anything. (It's the same with other manufacturers' Atmos soundbars. Their displays say they're getting an Atmos signal, but I'm not hearing anything more than Dolby 5.1 Surround.)
My other thought is that Amazon have released a confusing series of these FIRE STICK things – all with names that don't make it easy to identify the particular model version we own. It's possible you have one of the older or cheaper versions that doesn't support Dolby ATMOS or that your FIRE TV STICK's software needs updating. I'm using the very latest FIRE TV STICK 4K MAX (version 2, with 64GB RAM) and the Nova S80 is reporting Atmos on its LED screen (even if I cannot hear any audible Atmos from those upfiring speakers. Something I'd expected to be impressive and unmissable. But just ordinary 5.1 Surround is all I'm hearing).
I'd suggest you begin by checking your original order details on the Amazon website. If your version doesn't support Atmos, then be aware that Amazon offers trade-in upgrade deals that might help.
You could also try doing a software update on your FIRE TV STICK from within its menu system.
Also, IMPORTANT, go to the FIRE's menu system, HOME>Settings>DISPLAY&AUDIO>Audio and Video Diagnostics. This should pull up a screen to confirm the FIRE STICK is seeing an Atmos capable soundbar (i.e., it is communicating with the Atmos capable S80.
Don't forget that the FIRE TV STICKs are sold with FREE RETURNS, so you can grab the latest version to give it a try and see if that solves the issue. Easy enough to return without cost.
Richard fire stick is Atmos capable and newer. Using fire stick with max Atmos no problem. Using Netflix Atmos does not show on any movie or show description. If I use Netflix app on tv Atmos shows in show description and plays Atmos. There is video on you tube about this and Samsung tv. Tried that bu don’t have Atmos setting on tv. Yes have pass thru and tried ever combination I could. Tv is Atmos capable. Tried going right thru sound bar and same thing. That why I thought it was a Netflix version issue or something. Thanks.
Ah, sounds like your FIRESTICK NETFLIX APP may be the problem. It thinks you have the wrong NETFLIX subscription. As such, it won't display Atmos in the program listing, but will only show 5.1
Suggest you uninstall the NETFLIX App from the FIRESTICK. Power OFF the FIRESTICK for 30 minutes (or try restarting it). Then reinstall the NETFLIX App from the Appstore. That should delete any residual cache data from the FIRESTICK and connect you to your Premium Atmos subscription.
I had a similar problem with APPLE TV+ over the weekend. We un-installed and re-installed the App to fix it 😸.
If this fails, call NETFLIX technical support for assistance.
GETTING THE BEST FROM THE NOVA S80'S REAR DOLBY 5.1 SURROUND SOUND SPEAKERS.
OK, we know they're underpowered, and pretty useless for many 5.1 movies. But that's not all Ultimea's fault, as many studios didn't invest enough $$$s in the 5.1 Audio. That said, there are a few Dolby 5.1 movies you can try that'll demonstrate how capable the Nova S80 could be if only they'll accept that we don't mind a little 'noise' distortion when boosting the rear surround sounds on movies that need more umph.
Recommended Dolby+ 5.1 Surround movies that bring out the best surround sound from the Ultimea Nova S80 rear Surround speakers. The movies are:
● "FORD v FERRARI" included on NETFLIX's subscription – Fast-forwards to 49 minutes and 51 seconds, where Ken Miles takes his first test drive in the GT40 prototype. You'll hear excellent, very pleasing, Surround of the car passing behind you.
● "All Quiet on the Western Front" on NETFLIX, but be sure to select the German language version with English subtitles (and NOT the dubbed English language version!). Fast-forwards to 1 hour 20 minutes and 30 seconds to experience excellent all-around sounds of battle. Indeed, this movie spent a fortune on sets and on the sound mix, as reported in Dolby's own
own DOLBY PROFESSIONAL YouTube video https://professional.dolby.com/en-gb/home-entertainment/case-studies/dolby-atmos-all-quiet-on-the-western-front/, which explains how they incorporated Dolby Atmos into this movie, and what we should be expecting to hear in a mix that's sometimes Mono, sometimes 5.1, and occasionally Dolby Atmos.
● "MASTER and COMMANDER ‐ The Far Side of the World" on Disney+ – Fast-forwards to 1 hour 50 minutes, the main battle, where you'll experience 5.1 Surround at its very best. Indeed, this whole movie is a masterpiece of sound engineering.
I used to be an award-winning film and Audio-Visual 'Producer' (the guy who gets the blame 😂) so I do appreciate what's involved, and why a great sound engineer is important.
I believe the Nova S80's Atmos can be fixed, but for now, enjoy your Nova S80 as a good Dolby 5.1 surround sound system with these movies.
Dear customer,
Sincerely thank you all for your feedback.
We now know more about the advantages and disadvantages of this product.
We are actively collecting customer feedback to further improve the design and audio quality of the Nova series soundbar.
Particular attention is paid to the design and sound effects of the built-in speakers.
ULTIMEA product has a 2-year warranty. If there are any quality or hardware problems, we provide after-sales warranty service. Please do not worry.
Richard Seddon, We agree to your request to extend the 15-day return period for you, please don't worry.
I believe it is satisfactory overall, but the details of some modules need to be improved.
We will try our best to meet everyone's needs. Please also give us enough patience.
Hope to get everyone's understanding.
Thank you, ULTIMEA 🤝,
(although a 15 days extension on your 30 days Returns Window doesn't exactly say much about your confidence in your product. As we are all 'early adopters' of what's supposed to be your flagship product, I'd have thought you would have extend the Returns option to 60 days (i.e., an additional 30 days) for everyone). Think about it 🤔; an extension – just for pre-release – early adopters would send a great message.
Anyhow, I'm still conducting tests of the upfiring Atmos capabilities of the Nova S80. Today, I'm powering OFF the Subwoofer, thereby removing the BASS and the rear Surround speakers, while boosting the Atmos to the feeble maximum of +1.
Additionally, I am covering the soundbar's front firing speakers with foam and cardboard, so I should only be hearing Dolby Atmos originating from those two upfiring speakers; creating a Dolby 0.0.2. Test System.
Hopefully, excluding most of the S80's drivers will make it easier to hear any Atmos "height" effects from the S80's two upfiring speakers. (And, don’t worry, Ultimea, I am aware that the producers of many Atmos movies have neglected the Dolby "height" channel. Therefore, I am only expecting to hear those upfiring speakers for very specific "height" objects within Atmos' three-dimensional world. I just need to unequivocally identify what sound is being emitted from those upfiring Atmos drivers.)
I've spent an age in identify precisely (to the second) where the soundtrack of several movies is supposed to have a Dolby Atmos "height" section. And the S80's LED display confirms "Atmos" on these sections.
I'll be testing and evaluating the Nova S80 up against a much more expensive Samsung Dolby Atmos soundbar over the Easter weekend. My expectation is that the S80 will score very well. I'll share my findings with Ultimea and see what they have to say, but today's announcement from Ultimea confirms that they are listening.
Meanwhile, least Ultimea feel hurt by my critical analysis of the Nova S80's shortcomings, I should state that I have managed to find quite a few streaming movies and programs where the S80's 5.1 capabilities come over extremely well 👍. Yes, I am enjoying the S80's 5.1 performance and unquestionable excellent sound quality 😸! The issue is that many 5.1 movies have weak rear speaker channels, so it's essential that we're given user choice to OVER-boost the rear channel sound (to the point where Ultimea's sound engineers will weep tears at the 'noise' distortion) but, ultimately, that's for us customers to decide what is / isn't acceptable sound quality from our purchase.
Happy Easter everyone 🐣🐥!
