Nova S80 Customized Software-V139

Ultimea
Ultimea

Main Improvement Points:

① Change the Bass adjustment range to -6-6, 13 levels
② Change the surround adjustment range to -3-3, 7 levels
③ Improve vocal clarity
④ Improve the surround sound effect

Note: This is not a necessary operation. If the sound quality and adjustment range of the factory software have already met your expectations, it is recommended that you do not upgrade.

If you received the goods from the beginning of April, the factory software is V139

Specific Method:
1. Copy the "update.zip" file to the USB flash drive.

Note:
① Use an empty USB flash drive, USB format: FAT32 / ex-FAT, 128GB or less capacity;
② The file doesn't need to unzip;
③ It is recommended to use a newer USB flash drive, as an old one may cause the device to crash/stuck during the upgrade process;

2. After the Soundbar is turned on, insert the USB flash drive into the USB port, WAITING will be displayed, and then it will automatically upgrade and the progress will be displayed from 0 to 100. Automatically standby after the upgrade is completed.
3. Press and hold the button on the right side of "Dolby ATMOS" for 5 seconds. If the display shows "V139", it means the upgrade is successful.

I've just finished installing the Nova S80, replacing a Nova S70, and the whole experience is a massive upgrade.

The software update, from V107 to V139, was much slower than upgrades on the S70, but it was successful and provides valuable improvements.

On the S80, I'm actually experiencing Dolby Atmos with those upfiring speakers making a noticeable contribution to the immersive surround sound experience. Also, playing Dolby+ 5.1 – "Master and Commander: the far side of the world" (probably the best 5.1 film ever made) – I'm experiencing sound quality comparable to the Sony system this Nova S80 is replacing.

Well done ULTIMEA, you're created an impressive Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 system to be proud of 👏

    Rick

I definitely agree. The satellite speakers should be louder.

Hello everyone. I will receive my s80 speaker kit tomorrow. Compared to other sound systems, is the sound level of the rear speakers in the s80 that bad? Would you recommend changing the kit to an alternative 5.1 kit, without upfire? Maybe a simple Hisense 5.1?

Thank you for your response Micheal. Yes, I understand what you mean. I hope then that ultimea will release an update soon to better adjust the volume of the rear speakers. In any case I look forward to the delivery of them so I can try them on Monday with a Dolby atmos content. :)

Agreed with others' comments, the rear speakers definitely need more volume. They're often inaudible, only occasionally making a contribution, unless placed next to my ears like headphones. We're going to need an urgent software upgrade release.

Also, if the upfiring speakers can take it, I'd also like an extra power setting there too.

Subwoofer bass is excellent, as are the front 5 speakers, although a left-right stereo adjacent wouldn't go amiss.

Priority must be boosting those rear speakers +1 and +2.

    Muchas gracias

Hi everyone, Tomorrow I will finally test the S80 kit, then I will send you my opinion. But from the comments I've read... it seems like basically the upfire and rear speakers are completely useless. If this were really the case, regardless of the future update, it is not the best for the launch of a new product presented with the 5.1.2 system.

If they don't fix it soon, I think I will ask for a refund.

    Hallo Roberto,

Agreed. It seems only the satellite speakers need a boost. Overall very happy with the sound quality.

    Hello everyone,
ULTIMEA team would like to thank everyone for their feedback on the sound effect test of the Nova S80 V139.
Thank you all for your satisfaction with the sound quality of the Nova S80. We are also very sorry for the inconvenience caused to customers due to the insufficient sound from the rear speakers.

Here we would like to explain to you: the reason is that we are concerned that excessive volume may cause noise issues with the rear speakers.
The range of surround adjustment has been increased to level 3 as much as possible.

Most importantly, ULTIMEA has always valued customer experience, and as soon as we receive everyone's suggestions, we immediately hand them over to our technical team. They are discussing this matter and trying to develop new software that can increase the volume or continue to increase the surround adjustment level without generating background noise from the rear speakers.
This will take some time, but I will urge them to give a conclusion as soon as possible. Could you be patient and wait for a few days?
Sincerely appreciate everyone's suggestions and patience!

    Dear Ultimea,
Thank you for your quick response and promised support.
We will look forward to the release of the new firmware.
In the meantime, I would like to take this opportunity to add that as reported by other users and in a review of the S80, the same problem encountered with rear speakers also affects upfire speakers, on which should be fixed in the same firmware release.
    Confident in a quick resolution,
thank you in advance for your helpfulness.

    Regards Roberto

    Saludos
    Javier

I received the soundbar today. After turning it on, I immediately updated
to the V139 software, but the subwoofer and soundbar did not connect.
I tried to pair them manually according to the description, but it didn't
    work.
Because of these, I returned the factory V107 software according to
    the description.
After that, the soundbar won't even turn on.

    Hello to all,

it finally arrived. I must say that the installation and configuration was very easy, same for the V139 update.
I tested from various streaming services different types of content: 5.1, Dolby Atoms or Youtube video, with different results.

    Setup and configuration:
    - Movie, SR 1, BS 1, DT 1.
    - eARC connection and passtrought enabled on TCL C805 75-inch TV

I have a question for you: my subwoofer always outputs minimal audio from the content being played, even though they are turned off in BT -6. In practice, with any setting, and for any content, the subwoofer is never excluded, except when I pause the content itself.
All this translates into continuous "Wooooo" in the background, even when playing a simple interview podcast with only speech.

Does the same happen to you?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Attila Melke,

    Sorry for the inconvenience.
It may be that the device is stuck after a software installation. Our technicians have performed repair tests on devices with the same problem:
    1. Unplug the power plug, wait 30 minutes, then reconnect and turn it on.
    2. If it still cannot be turned on, please replace a USB flash drive and reinsert it into the soundbar to install the V107 software. (Even if the screen is black);
Wait 10-20 minutes and confirm whether the machine restarts or is turned on manually.

If you still have problems, we provide you with warranty replacement service. Please do not worry.

    Hello Roberto Manuele Alacqua,

We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience caused.

The BS-6 still produces a little bass effect. but the effect will be very weak
Regarding the subwoofer background sound you mentioned, can you please provide us with a video showing the problem? This way we can analyze it better.
Also, make sure there are no signal-interfering devices around the subwoofer and there is no obstruction on the subwoofer body.
If you have any further inquiries or require any assistance, please feel free to reach out. We value your business and look forward to serving you.

    Javier,
Only very short sections of a movie will contain Dolby Atmos; the most part is just Dolby+ (5.1). It is frustrating when we're testing our new Ultimea Atmos system, as we don't know which parts are Atmos and which just Dolby+ surround sound. I've suggested that it'd be useful if Ultimea could give us an option to display the type of Dolby we're receiving – Dolby+ (5.1) or Atmos – throughout a movie, so we know which parts are Atmos. This should be an ON/OFF switch. Do others feel this would be a useful feature? I also think the LED display is far too bright and that being on for 60 seconds is too long. I'd like that ON/OFF switch so the soundbar confirms what we're hearing when it's on, and no LEDs when the Dolby signal switch is OFF. Perhaps others could comment.

    Hello Richard Seddon,
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. While we do not have the capability to display specific formats during a movie, most movies should indicate the specific format.
Additionally, the soundbar LED will display "Dolby Atmos" when it detects the movie source is in Dolby Atmos format. If the movie source is in Dolby Digital Plus format, there are two display formats:
    1. If the EQ setting is in Movie or Dialog mode, it will display "DOLBY SURROUND".
    2. If the EQ setting is in Music mode, it will display "DOLBY AUDIO".

Regarding the LED switch function, the Nova S80 remote control currently does not have this button. However, we are in discussion with our suppliers and technical department to customize the software for you that will reduce the LED display duration to 30 seconds and decrease its brightness. We will contact you with the results.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Sorry ULTIMEA, but it appears the vast majority of comments on here are from customers who are disappointed in the appallingly weak performance the Rear "Surround" Speakers and the equally feeble performance of the Upfiring "Atmos" Speakers.

While appreciating that the Nova S80 comes from a manufacturer who is renowned for producing relatively low priced systems, you have chosen to make the S80 your new "flagship" model – with a significantly higher price point to match! – yet the new S80 is surprisingly massively outperformed by your much cheaper Poseidon D50 system which delivers excellent Dolby+ Surround through its larger rear speakers, even if the impressive D50 lacks any Dolby Atmos capability. You also offer the cheaper D60, which adds Dolby Atmos to the D50 configuration, but has only a single HDMI port, making it unsuitable for pass-through configurations. The new Nova S80 promised to bring the best of all your earlier offerings into one all-singing-all-dancing flagship model – and, sadly, it appears to be MASSIVELY UNDERPERFORMING on customer expectations.

    Looking to possible solutions...

Could the larger D50 / D60 rear Surround speakers be plugged into the S80 Subwoofer Amp, thereby permitting your engineers to significantly boost the sound levels of the rear surround channel without introducing distortion? Even holding the S80's Surround speakers against my ears, I'm hardly hearing anything.

As for those feeble upfiring front Atmos speakers; what is the problem with pushing the volume on these? Other manufacturers' front upfiring Atmos speakers are of a similar size, and I'm not hearing their customers complaining that they are only hearing the feeblest, very occasional, Dolby Atmos height effect 🤷‍♂️.

In its current configuration, your new 'flagship' Nova S80 is simply a great front Stereo Soundbar combined with a fabulous Subwoofer, but it isn't delivering the promised Dolby "Atmos" capability with 5.1 immersive "Surround Sound". As I am a very senior international technology consultant, who routinely assists big name blue chip companies in bringing products to market, my best advice to Ultimea is to (hopefully temporarily) withdraw the Nova S80 from sale. Treat your current customer base as early adopter user-testers for Beta trials of the S80, so you can actually produce a mission capable product.

I didn't pay a premium price tag only to receive a basic stereo Soundbar + Subwoofer. I expect your S80 to deliver that Atmos "height dimension" effect to compliment those rear speakers adding audible 360° "Surround Sound" to what's otherwise just a quality front soundbar + sub. You promised us an "immersive" sound experience and we're not hearing anything more than a whisper. I'm sure I'm not alone in checking my "Return options".

The Returns clocks are ticking ⏰️!

    Hallo Richard,
